It is something like sms blogging, i.e. instead of posting long articles like in blogs, you just send (from your phone or your IM etc.) short texts that people can read.

To take benefit from this wonderful service, Radiovazogasy, now, talks to twitter by sending it’s currently playing title. You can follow it on http://twitter.com/rvg

What doest that mean? From now on, you can receive as SMS what is playing on Radiovazogasy (you can join Twitter and follow rvg).

This is an extension with a component and a module for Authenticate users right from a mysql usertable. All informations about the database (hostname, databasename etc) can be configured in admin. The Query to get the user information is also to be set in the admin backend. This was tested to authenticate phpBB users and drupal users. And should work with others as well.

Every user who logs in is registered automatically to your Joomla user table. And if they change password in the remote site, their password will be updated when they log back in joomla. (So the username and password are always synchronized)

UPDATE 1-Sept-2006

Some of you said that the users are not shown in list as joomla users. It seems the users are in the database but since they dont’ have names they are not shown in the Administration panel.
So please use the name field in the SQL Query to make it work well

UPDATE 7-sept-2006:
Sorry that the example I put here had an error. I forgot a ‘

This is the right example.

eg. SELECT name_field_in_my_table AS name, username_field_in_my_table AS username, email_field_in_my_table AS email FROM my_table WHERE username_field_in_my_table=’%{user}’ AND password_field_in_my_table=md5(’%{pass}’)

UPDATE 20-June-2007

This version is for Joomla 1.0.x >= 1.0.12

Fixing some session issues in Joomla 1.0.12

Using josSpoofCheck (that’s why it wont’ work with Joomla < 1.0.12)

I made some modifications to fit to my needs. For instance, I just need one costum field. Which is the password field - For some reasons that I don’t remember, I changed its name from password_field to secret_field. If it is not empty the post is protected.

To make it work you have to clear the costum fields definition table related to password_fields and password_protected. Then users have to reactivate the plugin

I discovered JQuery a month ago and really I see it amazing. So I put it in action in Radiovazogasy.com. Up to now, there are two features using JQuery in radiovazogasy.com (and I’m still improving it), one is the autorefresh of the “Playing song” and the other is when posting a “Dedicated message” in the queue list, ajax is called.

AJAX Autorefresh

For auto-refreshing the #radioplaying div, this is what I used.

$(document).ready(
function(){
window.setInterval(
function(){
$(’#radioplaying’).load(’playing.php’).fadeIn(”slow”);
}
,60000);
$(”#radioplaying h1″).prepend(”<img src=’ajax_circle.gif’ width=’16′ height=’16′ border=’0′ style=’float: right’/>”);
}
);

This script load the file playing.php every 60 sec. and put its content into #radioplaying. The .prepend method used here is just to show a small image telling visitors that this div is being auto-refreshed. What is interesting to here is that if a visitor doesn’t have JavaScript activated, nothing happens. No errors and no blank space.

AJAX Post

The second script I used it when users post a message with a song. If a user is identified in the site, he can click on “Ajouter” (Add message) and instead of opening a new page where he can write his message, the script loads a textarea with savebutton. Once it is saved, the message is posted via AJAX call and <strike>the result message is shown</strike> the message posted is displayed.

This is the code

$(document).ready(function(){
$(”a.addmsg”).each(function(){
setClickable(this, this.id);
})
});

function setClickable(obj, id) {
$(obj).click(function() {
var textarea = ‘<div class=”ajaxform”><textarea rows=”3″ cols=”20″></textarea>’;
var button     = ‘<div><input type=”button” value=”Ajouter” class=”saveButton” />  <input type=”button” value=”Annuler” class=”cancelButton” /></div></div>’;
var revert = $(obj);
$(obj).after(textarea+button).remove();
$(’.saveButton’).click(function(){saveChanges(this, false, id);});
$(’.cancelButton’).click(function(){saveChanges(this, revert, id);});
return false;
});
}//end of function setClickable

function saveChanges(obj, cancel, n) {
if(!cancel) {
var t = $(obj).parent().siblings(0).val();
$.post(”dedicace.php”,{
dedicace_msg: t,
requestID: n
});
}
else {
var t = cancel;
}
if(t==”) t=’(click to add text)’;
$(obj).parent().parent().after(t).remove();
}

Here, the script is based on the <a> tag with class=”addmsg”. To identify each <a> I give each one its unique id, which will be posted with the message. That’s why I used setClickable(this, this.id); It then loads a dynamic div with the textarea and the buttons, which when saved is sent to the file dedicace.php. What I didn’t do is to show the result from dedicace.php (in case of error, for example)

For those who use the famous CMS Joomla, and want to have a news portal site… let’s say, like CNN.com or Washingtonpost.com then you can use this module. In fact, I bought ijoomla news portal from ijoomla.com but I was not satisfied because of the missing JoomFish Support with their component. Joomfish is the multilingual support for Joomla. So if you have a multilingual site then you cannot use ijoomla news portal.

How to use it?

Since this module change the look of your frontpage, you don’t need to care about the feature displaying contents (or not) in Joomla any more. You just need to use this module. So the first thing to do is to uncheck all contents from displaying in frontpage.

You can then install the module as usual and set it up in one of the positions you have in your homepage. You have some parameters to set, for example the Section ID or the Category ID. To create another module in another position, you can copy the module, rename it according to your need and set it up. You can then have many modules in your homepage.

If you want to add thumbnails to the articles, then activate it fist in the module setting. Then for each article, attach an image like if you are to add a mosimage… but don’t insert it in the text. Click the image here to show how.

What remains is to set up your CSS. Since each module has its own class suffix, you can easily customize them. You can hire me to spend some time create yours if you really need to. I will in the future put some predefined CSS here when I have time.

Who use it?

Some sites using this module:

rcj.org

katolika.org

consolazione.org

Need help?

Because of spam, I closed the comments as of today (10-Jan-2008). If really you need help and you do not find any solution in the comments below, then email me: hery@serasera.org
